Penny Short, RN, BSN, joined Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in 1983 and has over 30 years of experience in the health care field. She has been chief nursing officer since 2008 and in 2012 was also named chief operating officer for Nanticoke Memorial Hospital.
Short led the hospital to accreditation as the first Primary Stroke Center in Delaware, Level III Trauma Center, ACOS Accredited Cancer Center. She takes special pride in Nanticoke being recognized by CMS as the only 4-Star hospital in Delaware for both the patient experience and quality.
Short serves on the Board of the Southern Delaware Chapter of the American Heart and Stroke Association. She is a member of the American Organization for Nurse Executives and the American College of Healthcare Executives. In 2012, Short was honored as a Distinguished Alumni from Delaware Technical Community College’s Owens Campus and inducted into the College’s Walk of Success. She was most recently recognized in Delaware Today as Top Women in Business 2015.
Short earned her associate degree in nursing at Delaware Technical Community College in 1983, her bachelor’s degree in nursing degree from Wilmington University in 1993, and is currently finishing her master’s degree in nursing leadership from Wilmington University.
